2009 wasn’t just a great year for Sisterhood Media Group!
Considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of the hairdressing world, the 25th British Hairdressing Awards took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on the 23rd of November 2009. Hosted by Dermot O’Leary with entertainment provided by the London Community Gospel Choir, the awards are about recognising and rewarding the creativity of the British hairdressing industry.
Competing against five other stylists in her category was Michelle Thompson, who was proclaimed Afro Hairdresser of the Year.
In this interview Michelle talks about winning the award and even offers some useful tips on how to make the most from your trip to the hairdressers.

Minx Nails
Here’s what you need to know about Minx, the latest nail trend that is proving to be a big hit with the likes of Victoria Beckham, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Minx is a solid nail coating with an adhesive backing that is sealed once it’s activated by a special heat lamp. You can pick from different designs including silver, gold, and what I had the cheetah print.
Firstly my old nail polish was removed, then my nails were filed, buffed, and dried in preparation for the Minx coating to be applied. The Minx was heated briefly under the lamp then applied and smoothed out onto my nail. Once all my nails were done, they were filed using a glass nail file, which also helps to remove any excess. To finish off my cuticles were moisturised with oil and that was it, my nails had been given the Minx treatment.
