ENERGY FOODS

As we continue to meet deadlines and burn the candle at both ends, our energy levels are sacrificed. Couple this with a lack of sleep and bad food choices, it’s a wonder we actually able to get out of bed in the mornings. It’s time to make some changes for the better.
I’ve put together some great energy foods to help you make some nutritious food choices.

Grains – these have a slow sugar release giving you a steady flow of energy. They are packed with B vitamins which are needed for energy release within the body. Try incorporating these into your diet by eating them with houmous, olives and tomatoes.

Oats – these are packed with energy nutrients and help to maintain blood glucose levels. This aids with daily concentration and alertness together with keeping hunger pangs at bay. Have a bowl of porridge first thing in the morning and notice how invincible you are for the rest of the day!

Green vegetables – preferably raw, eat; broccoli, spinach, kale and asparagus for a burst of B vitamins iron and magnesium.  All are wonderful energy boosters. Put raw broccoli into a salad for lunch.

Flaxseeds – also known as linseeds, these have exceedingly high levels of omega 3
and 6 fatty acids (EFAs). Their function is to produce energy and transfer oxygen
around the body. Sprinkle flaxseeds on cereal or any hot or cold foods.

Sunflower seeds – these have an abundance of magnesium, iron, copper, vitamin B complex, EFAs, zinc and iron. They are also a great source of protein. Use these for an instant pick me up during the day – an essential for your handbag.
