Mogul Mums: Mel B
She has come a very long way since the days of ‘Scary Spice’ and not only has Mel B tamed the frizz, but she’s also kick started her career. She’s a solo artist, television presenter, former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant, model AND mother.
She may have had two children, but the 34 year old has never looked and apparently felt better. Mel’s definitely gone from ‘scary’ to ‘sizzling’ and is now a fitness diva!
But what you have to love most is how honest she is about it. She knows like we all do, that being a working mum is extremely hard work! We don’t all have time for the gym and we can’t all afford a personal trainer. So check out her real life do-it-yourself fitness tips.
From Mogul Mummy to Yummy Mummy! Mel B’s Super Fit Tips
Grab a DVD
No, we don’t mean a Sex and the City box set and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s (although it does sound very tempting), we’re talking exercise DVD’s which Mel B swears by; “Exercise DVD’s are my secret! You can do them anytime, anywhere and they’re adaptable. Sometimes I have to split it into fifteen minute sections, but either way I get my work out done.” Not only can you save some cash on gym memberships, but you also get the chance to work out whenever you have an opening in your extremely busy schedule. So before work or after work, you get to choose.
Whether it’s yoga, pilate’s or aerobics, exchange your Carrie Bradshaw for some Brazilian Capoeira and I`m guessing as soon you start seeing some results you won’t regret the switch.

Make it Fun
After being on your feet ALL day, running around the office and then going home to look after your child I’m guessing the last thing you feel like doing is working up a sweat. But even Mel admits; “I’m probably one of the laziest people on the earth and sometimes I really don’t feel like doing it, but I find ways round it.”
I’m hoping that you took the advice from Jada Pinkett Smith (check out previous Mogul Mum features) and have your ‘Mumtorage’ because you’re going to need one more than you think!
Mel says; “I have a support system, a group of friends that say ok I`m gonna come over, we’re gonna work out eat healthily and then we can have a big long gossip and a cup of tea afterwards.”
Make it fun and laugh. Chances are if you’re enjoying it you’re more likely to stick to it and after all that hard work I’m sure you’ll enjoy exercising your mouth!
Be creative
You may be thinking; ‘I have no time to exercise, I’m a working mum, I’m always busy!’ Mel says “I do my work out when my two-year-old goes down for a two hour nap. So I come and workout. I also stick my crock pot on – put a load of vegetables and chicken and let that cook itself. There are things you can constantly be doing, when you’re nursing your baby, you can do lunges or squats, or grab the stroller and go for a walk!” Find ways to be creative with your time, and you’ll soon see you’ll never be too busy to exercise!
Be stubborn
We all know how annoying it is when you’ve been working out for weeks and you don’t see any difference. Mel says; “Be stubborn” or in other words persistent.
“I’m a right now person. I hate waiting for things to happen, but I’m a Gemini so it makes me stubborn, if you’re stubborn with your exercise you’ll stick to it.”
I’m sure we all have that stubborn streak in there and waiting for things to happen is the most boring bit. But I guarantee it’ll take a lot less time than it took for you to bring your child into the world or to get to where you are now in your career!
“Celebrities often have different resources than normal mums – you can afford to have a babysitter when you need time for yourself. You can have a trainer, a personal chef. Most moms don’t have that, so I try to give tips that most mums can follow.”
And she certainly has! So make it fun, find a perfect opportunity, grab a DVD and yes be a little bit stubborn, you too can be sizzling just like Mel. When exercise sound’s this easy, how can you possibly resist?
