Introducing a remarkable woman: Queen Rania of Jordan
(wife of King Abdullah II of Jordan)
 
“Back in 1993, when I first met Prince Abdullah at a dinner, I could never have imagined what fate had in store for me. At that time, as a recent graduate, I was living and working in Amman, and certainly never expected to marry a Prince of the Hashemite lineage or, one day, become the Queen of Jordan.”
 
Biography:
  • Born: 31st August 1970
  • Formerly Rania Al-Yassin Born on 31 August 1970 in Kuwait
  • Completed primary and secondary education in Kuwait 1991, obtained Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo Early professional career in banking and information technology
  • Married His Majesty King Abdullah, then Prince, on 10 June 1993
  • Mother of four children; HRH Prince Hussein 28 June, 1994; HRH Princess Iman 27 September, 1996; HRH Princess Salma 26 September, 2000 and HRH Prince Hashem 30 January, 2005.
Business Accomplishments: Queen Raniais a board member of the World Economic Forum and she founded the  Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship which aims to support economic growth by providing an array of services in entrepreneurship development and technology commercialization. The center’s vision is to ensure that Jordan’s intellectual wealth is uplifted to unprecedented levels, to become a regional cornerstone for technology commercialization and entrepreneurship development. Queen Rania is also a major advocate of women’s rights around the world, including the Middle East. She was ranked 81st in the Forbes 2005 100 most powerful women of the world list. She is a major philanthropist and supporter of the micro-fund movement.
 
 
 “Educating our children is not just about imposing a body of knowledge on them. Rather, it involves preparing children from the early years for the world in which they will come of age. It means instilling a love for lifelong learning, creativity, self-expression and an appreciation for diversity.”
 
Charity work:
In a specially recorded video message, the Gala Patron of Women for Women International Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, stressed, “When you invest in women survivors of war, you spark a multiplier effect. Empowered women are crucial to reconstruction and lasting peace. They’re not asking for charity: they just need a chance to show what they can do. Now is not the time to give up on these women: now is when they need us more than ever”.
