 Biography

Sheryl Sandberg was born in Miami in Florida and taught aerobics whilst at school. In 1987 she enrolled at Harvard University and in 1991 graduated with a BA in Economics. After leaving Harvard, Sheryl moved to India to volunteer with health projects in the country. 
In 1993 she returned and enrolled at the Harvard Business School. In 1995 she earned an MBA with the highest distinction.
After business school Sheryl worked for one year as a management consultant for McKinsey and Company.
In 1996 she then moved on to serve as Chief of Staff to the United States Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers under President Bill Clinton. Here she helped lead the Treasury’s work on forgiving debt in the developing world.
In 2001 Sheryl moved to Google which was a small 300 person start up company.
In 2002 she met her husband David Goldberg a CEO of Survey Monkey.
In 2004 the couple were married and she gave birth to two children. 
In 2007 Sheryl met Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of Facebook at a party. Although Mark hadn’t intended on hiring a COO he offered Sheryl a job on the spot.
In 2009 Sheryl joined the board of directors for Starbucks as well as the board of the Brookings Institution, Women for Women International, V-Day, and the Ad Council. 
Business Accomplishments
 
Sheryl not only became the vice president of Google’s global online sales operations, but she also built and ran its online advertising business. Sheryl singlehandedly grew the company from 4 to 4,000.
Sheryl also helped to launch Google’s ‘Google org’ and hired Larry Brilliant to run the organization.
After leaving Google and becoming the COO for Facebook, Sheryl was in charge of the firm’s business operations, sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy and communications.
Facebook now works with 83 of the top 100 ad spenders in the United States, has 250 million users in counting and is worth an estimated $500 million. In 2007 Sheryl was the youngest woman to be voted 29th on the list of the 50 most Powerful women in business.
Sheryl was also named one of the 25 Most Influential Women on the Web. 
 
Charity Work
In 1991 Sheryl worked for three years in India, dealing with Aids, leprosy and blindness. Sheryl also marched to raise money for `Women for Women International’ an organization dedicated to help women survivors of the war rebuild their lives.
Sheryl is now one of the director’s of Women for Women because of her consistent help and commitment to the organization. Sheryl also helped launch ‘Google for Charity’ which has given $1-billion and a mandate to fight poverty, disease and global warming on other countries.
